How do I get rid of this wild opossum?

I just let my puppy out for her pee before bed and she stayed an extra couple of minutes outside and then she started to bark like crazy. I went to check what was going on and an opossum was laying on my back wall staring at her. I don't like opossums and especially don't like them outside near my dog. How do I go about getting rid of it without harming it? Also, will it be free? How do I get rid of this wild opossum?
Opossums are no harm to your dog..your dog is more of a threat to it. They mostly try and avoid contact with pets..they may try and defend themselves if attacked, but otherwise they are pretty harmless. Also, opossums are highly resistant to rabies as they have very low body temperatures..so you don't have to worry about virus or disease being passed on to your dog. Wild animals have every right to be out in nature..that is where they belong. Sure you can deter them from coming around your home by not leaving any food or water sources or hiding places for them around your property. Other than that..leave it alone and it will leave you alone. How do I get rid of this wild opossum?
Opossums are a way of life. You can kill one and then four will come to get revenge. Keep your yard very clean. Keep garbage contained. Don't put out plastic bags of garbage. Get tight fitting lids for the containers you do have. Your dog and the oposums get along fine. Dog acts brave. possum falls down, all is well. No need to get rid of it or kill it. You just need to control it.
Just kill it, there are plenty of them and it could have rabies. They have like 8 kids at a time and then you will have 9 opposums around.

Since there seems to be some disbelief below me...

it's only around because it's finding food nearby, just make sure that no food or edible garbage is available and it will move on to another house
Opossums only stick around for a few days, make sure NO food or trash is out there and he will be on his way.

Opossums ARE NOT CARRIERS OF RABIES!!!!!
Sprinkle your property (boundary) with Strong Pepper, not regular black pepper.
