Diffrence between a possum and an opossum? Are they the same animal?

I was just wondering are they similar animals?Diffrence between a possum and an opossum? Are they the same animal?
They are not the same animal.

Opossum live in North America.

Possum live in Australia, New Guinea and introduced to New Zealand. There are about 64 different species.

They are both marsupials but they are different species. It is just here in the US due to the different ways people talk, at times Opossum comes out of the mouth without the ';O';.Diffrence between a possum and an opossum? Are they the same animal?
Exact Same animal, just different ways of saying them. I say possum. Some people say opossum. But the correct terminology is Opossum
They are the same animal. If your from the east you say possum from the west you say opossum.
Same animal
same animal:)
they r the same animal. it just depends on where u r from. some of us say opossum and some say possum. i say possum.
Depends; while people in the US use the terms interchangeably for Didelphis marsupialis, there is an animal in Australia called a ';Possum'; which is not the same thing at all as the American Opossum. It's also a marsupial, but there the resemblance ends..
